Waqf Amendment Bill Live Updates: 'Some misleading innocent Muslims,' says Kiren Rijiju ahead of tabling Waqf bill
Parliament Budget Session Live Updates: The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is set to be presented in Parliament today. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have instructed their MPs to be present for the session.
Since neither the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nor the Opposition INDIA bloc has reached a consensus, the final decision on the bill is likely to depend on the majority votes in the House.
The bill will be introduced after the Question Hour for consideration and passing, followed by an 8-hour discussion, which may be extended.
In addition to BJP and Congress, their allies have also issued similar instructions to their MPs to attend the parliamentary session on April 2 and 3.
The opposition has strongly opposed the bill. Samajwadi Party (SP) chief whip Dharmendra Yadav has asked all SP MPs in the Lok Sabha to be present on April 2 and take part in the discussions. Meanwhile, leaders of the INDIA bloc met in Parliament on Tuesday to discuss their strategy regarding the bill.
